I've found that my Kindle's USB interface doesn't work with 64-bit versions of Windows. To work around this unfortunate limitation, I decided to use the Windows XP Mode of Windows 7 (basically an XP virtual machine):
- Download and install Windows Virtual Machine and Windows XP Mode from Microsoft.
- While it downloads, plug your Kindle in and wait for Windows to recognize the device and install the drivers.
- Go to the Device Manager (start - type Device Manager into the search field) and expand the "Disk drives" menu. Double-click on the Kindle and click on the "Driver" tab at the top. Click the "Disable" button and then hit ok.
- Launch Windows XP Mode and go to USB (at the top) and click Kindle. It will ask if you want to attach the Kindle, to which you respond yes!
- Theoretically, your Kindle will now be accessible in the XP My Computer area. You can copy files from your regular Windows 7 system and paste them into XP.
This is how it worked out for me. It may or may not work this way for you. I wish you the best of luck!
